A Case For Vegetarians and Well Being [Feb. 8th, 2007|10:03 pm]

Hi, my name is Aaron and I'm searching for a relatively friendly and understanding group of vegetarians to have a good discussion with. Recently, the past month, I have become vegetarian, and it caused me to question. I'm certainly asking a ridiculous request, so do not feel obligated to read my thoughts on this, but I've come to a point where I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Surely there are things I am missing, points I may be faulting, and I would like to see that. I can only reflect so much on my own views, and this is a huge lifestyle choice, so any contribution or reaction is valuable to me. So here are my thoughts as I've come to them up till now, if anyone cares to read the story of a lifetime carnivore, with no regret or second thought, to conscious and now contemplating vegetarian.

I just joined this community and thought I'd say a little about myself. My name is Heidi, I'm a freshman in highschool, a cat lover, lead tenor sax player in my school's jazz band, and a vegetarian. I picked up the diet from my parents, and have been a vegetarian all my life. I believe that this diet not only promotes kindness to animals and to the environment, but also is healthier for us in general. I am often asked how I got so thin by my friends. What do I tell them? I'm a vegetarian! :D

However, I've found that it's very hard to convince meat-eaters that vegetarianism is a good thing. Some of my friends refuse to try anything vegan! I'll convince them someday...:D

Hey all!

I've recently started following a vegetarian diet. As a result, I have a lot of energy and have lost weight, so I would like to keep following this diet. The trouble is, I go to college and the cafeteria doesn't offer a whole lot of food products that don't have meat in them. I have a microwave in my dorm room, but that's all. I would like to go shopping for vegetarian-friendly meals to eat when the cafeteria doesn't offer the foods that I would like to eat, and so I would like to know if any of you have any suggestions. I'm particuliarly interested in frozen dinners/pre-prepared meals.

Thank you.

Thornberry animal sanctuary near Sheffield, UK will close down within
one
month if funds are not raised quickly. The sanctuary has a no-kill
policy
and also displays a lot of AR literature (SHAC, VIVA, HSA etc) in their
reception. They have been rescuing horses, pigs, cats, dogs, rabbits,
birds
and many other animals from abandonment and abusive situations since
1988.
They are one of the largest and best sanctuaries in the North of
England and
it will be very bad if they close down. If anyone can help them in any
way
please get in touch with them. There are much more details on their web
site
at http://www.thornberry-animal-sanctuary.org/

hi i'm new, so i'l introduce myself. i won't state my real name, but if you need to put a name to the person call me emmy. i'm 15 and in boarding school in australia.
i'm not vegan or vegetarian, although i want to be. i went vegetarian for a month or two but my family are absolute carnivores, everything they cook has to have some kind of meat in it. i think i'll commit to being vegetarian and actually sit down and tell them that i am.
one man actually asked me why i was vegetarian and said it was the stupidest thing to do. i don't like a lot of vegetables, only a few so my mom thinks it'll be unhealthy for me to become vegetarian. but when i leave the house and live by myself i'll give veganism a go. i don't want the whole lecture of the healthiness of going vegan.
which brings me to a few things i'm really confused about. some vegetarians eat fish, but isn't that a meat? and some people think that being vegetarian or vegan is really unhealthy.
i hope i can get all the answers to my questions here. thanks!

My holiday [Aug. 9th, 2005|04:49 pm]

Well, I've just got back from being in Greece with my family! I thought it would be hard being a vegeterian in Greece and I was right. It wasn't that I wanted to eat meat but it's just that practically everything had meat in it! My sister accidentally ate ham because it was hidden in her mashed potatoes. I practically existed on salad!

I suppose the worst (and it wasn't that bad anyway) bit was when we went to a random Greek restaurant and they had NO vegeterian main courses so my sister and I ended up having two starters!

Anybody else got any vegeterian related vacation stories?
